Lori Lako

Lori Lako is the winner of 2020 Ardhje Award for her installation Suspense.

Her practice reflects on the condition of post-modern humanity, outclassed by images and messages that hinder the decoding of the world, historical memory and listening to the self. She investigates the mediation of historical and personal events by the internet platforms and digital devices. Hence, she prefers to deconstruct and layer pre-existing images rather than create new ones in her projects. Lako’s home country, Albania, often appears in her work as a liminal state, suspended between past and uncertain present where nothing happens and everything is possible.

Lako’s solo exhibitions include: Made in Italy, OFF (2020) at Museo Novecento in Florence, Italy and The sea is far, though my tears are salty (2018) at Civic Gallery in Shkodër, Albania. Her work has been featured in group shows at ZETA Contemporary Art Center, Tirana, Albania (2020); Villa Reale, Monza, Italy (2019); Espace Témoin, Geneva, Switzerland (2019); Lo schermo dell’Arte, Florence, Italy (2019); Casa Testori, Milan, Italy (2019); Manifattura Tabacchi, Florence, Italy (2019); Terzopiano Arte Contemporanea, Lucca, Italy (2019); CENTRO PECCI, Prato–Italy (2017) and Art Lab, Tirana, Abania (2016) among others.

She participated at art residencies in Graz, Austria; Città dell’arte/ Fondazione Pistoletto in Biella, Italy; Abbazia di Mirasole x Casa Testori in Milan; Art House in Shkodër, Albania; and Infrared Art Residency in Prishtina, Kosovo.
