Van Hettmer primarily works within the field of painting which she confronts with objects, sculpture, technology and typography (language). She focuses on topics such as taboo, risk, female sexuality, authenticity, quality, humor and playfulness in order to express the importance of approaching the inner and outer self. Uncovering emotions and intimacy is a focal point in her work, and the imperfections that are unmasked in this process are presented as an empowerment of the body and the mind. As an artist born and based in Europe, Hettmer blends the vulnerabilities of eastern and western politics in her new age spiritual paintings.

Van Hettmer is an alumni of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, where she studied with Ashley Hans Scheirl and Monica Bonvicini. She attended the University of Fine Arts Hamburg (HFBK) as a grant recipient of the Art School Alliance international exchange program, and studied in the ateliers of Anselm Reyle, Jutta Koether, Simon Denny, and Adam Broomberg & Oliver Chanarin. She is a member of Austrian Association of Women Artists (VBKÖ) in Vienna, and a member of the artist alliance Unverzollt e.V. in Hamburg, Germany.

During her most recent residencies at Cité internationale des arts and Dresden Residents 2022, Van Hettmer explored the multicultural diversity of institutions in Paris and studied the print tradition in Dresden/Leipzig. She was nominated multiple times for the VÚB Foundation Painting Competition. She has exhibited in art institutions in Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Greece and USA. Her sculptural work, La Fontana (2015), is in the temporary collection of the Wien Museum MUSA, Austria.”;s:5:”email”;s:0:””;s:5:”phone”;s:0:””;s:7:”address”;s:0:””;s:7:”socials”;a:1:{i:0;a:3:{s:4:”name”;s:0:””;s:5:”title”;s:0:””;s:3:”url”;s:0:””;}}}
